Referees are the third team in our game. Their job is to ensure that a football match is played in a fair manner and in accordance with the laws of the game. Marist Football values and supports their referees – we could not play without you!
We encourage anyone who is a Marist student, family member or football community member to take up the whistle. We especially invite female referees to join us here at Marist Football.
Benefits of being a referee:
- Earn some money – fees range from $10 right up to $70 for each game that you referee.

- Develop confidence, and great leadership and communication skills.
- Be part of a positive and supportive group of referees who all love football.
- Receive training and mentoring from our experienced Referee Coordinator.
Types of referees:
- Game leader – the first step for those aged 12-13 (in year 7) to learn the fundamentals. Game Leaders officiate MiniRoos games and act as assistant referees (linesperson). They receive training and experience to become a Football Referee.
- Referee – for persons aged 13-14 (in year 8) and above. Depending on experience and age these referees are involved in games at all levels of the club.
How do I become a referee?
Refer to the information on the Capital Football website. You will need to register (including paying a fee) and undertake the required training course/s.
